CAST IN DOGS

Tape stirrups are placed on the lateral aspects of the limb.

1. longue depressor is placed between them to prevent adherence of the stirrups to each another.
2. Stockinette is applied over the limb. A lightly padded, secondary layer is then applied firmly around the leg.
3. The fiberglass cast material is applied firmly but no tightly to the leg, avoiding compression of the cast material with fingers.
4. The stockinette ends are reflected over the cast and the tape stirrups reflected into the cast. Protective tape is applied over the ends of the cast.
5. Walking bar can be applied to the cast at this point. The middle two toes are exposed.
