Mother Ship is a ship that has the ability to move military forces in the form of a naval fleet strength. In the carrier typically includes aircraft, helicopters and other air forces in large numbers. The carrier function is to support naval operations center command and mental shock to the opponent.

The mother ship was first introduced and used by the British Navy during the first world war.
It was a country like the United States has not used it because it is considered risky as the main target of the enemy so that military operations can be easily overpowered.

All countries Having Currently Mother Ship:
  1. United States
  2. France
  3. English
  4. India
  5. Italian
  6. Russia
  7. Spanish
  8. Brazil
  9. Thailand
  10. China
Mother Ship type:
Type aircraft carrier is currently divided into three criteria based on the type of driving, how to launch the aircraft and the function.
Mother ship type based on their propulsion :

Nuclear Mother Ship
Reactor is connected to a steam turbine capable of producing steam as the prime mover ship and also functioned as a source of electrical power as well as for aircraft launcher (called a catapult).
USS Ronald Reagan, USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Enterprise

Diesel Mother Ship
The carrier is using a prime mover such as a ship's diesel engines - conventional ship in general.
Sample carrier diesel: Giuseppe Garibaldi (Italy), 25 de Mayo (Argentina), RTN Chakkri Narrubet (Thailand).

Mother ship type based on the way to launch the aircraft:

Mother Ship CTOL (Conventional Take Off Landing)
The carrier has an area large deck as a landing and launch aircraft. To encourage the plane to fly use catapult, while to hold the plane while landing use a cable restraint called Arrester. Tool - the tool needed to help launch and landing of aircraft due to runway limitations launch and landing aircraft normally like in the airport.
Examples types of CTOL aircraft carriers: USS Ronald Reagan, USS John F Kennedy

Mother Ship STOVL (Short Take Off Vertical Landing)
The carrier has landing facilities and the launch aircraft vertically using the Sky Jump, so the deck is usually smaller. In terms of the carrier's treatment of this type require a relatively cost is cheaper. However, because using the airplane Sky Jump is in it only a type - such as aircraft type AV-8 Harrier, Harrier II Plus, 141 Yak, Yak 38 Forger and helicopter.
Example STOVL aircraft carriers: USS Tarrawa, Chakri Narruebet, Viraat, HMS Ark Royal, Prince de Asturias

Type aircraft carrier based on their function:
  • Fleet Mother Ship
  • Escort Mother Ship
