THE SYMPTOMS OF GALLSTONES


Medically, gallstone can be detected early on with medical test forexample ultrasound or X-ray examination of abdomen.

The symptoms of gallstones are silent or have no signs andthis matter that becomes main reason for some of people with gallstones unawareto their disease, though there is tendency over a period of five yearsapproximately 10% of people with silentgallstones will show develop symptoms,continue and often condition will worsen. Approximately 80% of people with gallstoneswho develop symptoms ( over a period of five years ) oftentimes can be foundthe most common symptom of gallstones is namely biliary colic ( very specifictype of pain ) as a effect of distention of ducts or gallbladder which occurswhen the extrahepatic ducts-cystic, hepatic or common bile-are suddenly blockedby a gallstone.

Characteristic of biliary colic are a recurring symptom, comes on suddenly, aconstant pain ( does not come and go ) , builds rapidly to a peak over a fewminutes ( around 15 minutes ), if the pain lasts more than 4-5 hours it meanscomplication of cholecystitis has developed, factually patients experiencingbiliary colic often walk about or writhe to find a comfortable position.Location most common for biliary colic often is felt in the middle of the upperabdomen just below the sternum, pain also is felt at the right upper abdomenjust below the margin of the ribs. Occasionally pain may be felt in the back atthe lower tip of the scapula on the right side. Biliary colic oftentimes bemistaken with angina or a heart attack because the pain also may be is feltbeneath the sternum though on rare occasions.
