AMYLOIDOSIS RENAL ON PET ANIMALS

Amyloidosis is a disease characterized by accumulation of amyloid interseluler on renal, liver and lien. Amyloid is a glycoprotein which allegedly occur by immunological reactions. Accumulation of amyloid in dogs especially in the glomeruli, whereas in cats especially in the medulla.
Accumulation of amyloid can occur because the disease process supuratif, necrotic or neoplastic, but can also occur without these abnormalities. Accumulation of amyloid perivaskular will constrict on the lumen of blood vessel , reducing perfusion and causes atrophy iskhemi and necrosis of the cells around it.

Clinical signs of amyloidosis depends on the disease stage, at an early stage that there is only proteinuria ( albuminuria ) found in urinalysis. In the circumstances that more continue can occur nephrotic syndrome or kidney failure. In these circumstances the liver and a lien can be enlarge, the kidneys may be enlarged, normal or smaller that depending on the disease stage. Amyloidosis frequently occurs on thrombosis in the blood vessels on lungs, lien, renal, coronary, mesenteric, iliaca and brachialis ( which can cause dispnu suddenly, sudden death, dysfunction of limb ).

Diagnosis is determined from the clinical signs include persistent proteinuria with process of chronic supuratif, tissue damage, neoplasia, enlargement on liver and lien, but it needs to be confirmed by biopsy.

Therapy is difficult because the etiology is less clear. In general, therapy is only done on the primary factor ( the supuratif / neoplastic ) and treatment of symptomatic and supportive for kidney failure, but these can only prolong the life of animals for the disease that progressive.
